The Parks

Walt Disney World’s holiday season arrives with a hole in it. The resort’s most iconic gingerbread display, the one that turns an afternoon into a pilgrimage, is not returning for 2026. Again. Guests who built entire day-trips around photographing it are left disappointed for a second straight year, and the absence stings more because this was a major seasonal offering that everyone pointed to.

Meanwhile, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is doing exactly what it’s designed to do: clear out Magic Kingdom. Friday’s park data showed an 8.5-minute median wait, down more than 40 percent from the 30-day baseline, a crowd level reading two full tiers below normal. The party shut regular-day admission at 6:00 PM, and the numbers prove how hard that gate closure hits. If you held a day ticket and didn’t check the calendar, you got a ghost town. If you didn’t, you got shut out entirely.

Not every new experience is pulling its weight. Hollywood Studios’ “Olaf Draws,” the interactive offering inside the revamped Magic of Disney Animation building, launched in September with the usual fanfare. Weeks later, it’s reportedly struggling in B-Mode and dealing with closures, with guest interest already cooling. A brand-new attraction fading this fast, this early, is a trajectory Disney avoids for a headline addition.

There’s also a quieter correction happening in Toy Story Land. Buzz, Woody, and Jessie have dropped the Toy Story 5 movie-tied accessories they debuted back in July and returned to their classic looks. The promotional tie-in ran its course, and the characters are back to their familiar selves.

Over at Disneyland Paris, a Daily Park Report from late September into early October covered the Halloween season at the resort.

The Shows

Disney Channel and Disney+ are reopening Halloweentown. A fifth movie in the franchise is in early development, according to an exclusive report, bringing back one of the network’s most beloved Halloween properties two decades after its last entry. The giant pumpkin gets another shot at lighting up.

John Carpenter’s original Halloween is getting a different kind of revival. IllFonic’s new release, Halloween: The Game, recreates the night Michael Myers came home to Haddonfield through an interactive multiplayer format, letting fans experience the 1978 slasher classic from angles the film never gave them.

At LightBox Expo in Pasadena, Ron Clements and John Musker reunited to mark 40 years since The Great Mouse Detective, the film that paired the directing duo before they went on to make The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Moana. The conversation, moderated by Nick Manfredi, gave fans a rare look back at where that partnership started.

And EPCOT has closed out its Candlelight Processional lineup for the 2026 Festival of the Holidays. Jordan Fisher fills the final narrator slot, completing the roster for the Christmas-season tradition. The full schedule is set.

The Business

The Walt Disney Company and Dude Perfect have announced a company-wide creative partnership, folding Dude Perfect’s sports and comedy format into Disney’s entertainment, sports, consumer products, and parks businesses. The collaboration is built to span some of Disney’s biggest franchises and cultural moments, a sign Disney wants Dude Perfect’s audience inside its ecosystem rather than adjacent to it.

Elsewhere in the industry, Six Flags is adding seat belts to its Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia and to other coasters with similar restraint systems, following a fatal accident. The company is also running independent safety reviews, and eight additional coasters remain closed while that work continues. Safety scrutiny at one park chain ripples across how every operator, Disney included, gets evaluated by the public.

The Details

Disney Dreamers Academy marked its 20-year legacy last month, as 50 students from Central Florida walked the purple carpet lined with community leaders and Disney VoluntEARS to kick off the program’s next chapter. DDA launched in 2008 to give young people hands-on career exposure, and two decades in, the ceremony carried the weight of that history.

For collectors, the merchandise pipeline keeps churning. The Disney Store has launched a duck-themed Disney and Pixar mystery keychain series, feeding the blind-box demand that’s gotten big enough to earn dedicated store sections at Disney Springs and Downtown Disney. BoxLunch, meanwhile, has dropped seven new Christmas-themed Loungeflys, including a light-up Lilo & Stitch scene and a Muppet Christmas Carol design, several of them exclusive to the retailer.

And for the park history nerds, MiceChat’s Yesterland feature takes on Starcade in Tomorrowland at Disneyland, noting the oddity that Starcade never got an official closing date the way most shuttered attractions do. It’s a small gap in the record that fans are still working to pin down.
