The Parks

Magic Kingdom is mid-shuffle in Liberty Square. Jessie’s Roundup wraps on September 8, 2026, and in its place comes a “limited-time” pop-up at the Diamond Horseshoe, opening October 4 with reservations starting September 29. Disney Parks Blog has already served up the menu preview: shareable plates, frontier fare, and Sweet Golden Corn Fritters. This space cycles through concepts while everyone waits to see if something permanent sticks. For now, book the reservation window and treat it like the temporary thing it’s billed as.

Over at Hollywood Studios, an actual era is closing. The Hollywood Brown Derby’s refurbishment is nearly finished, according to guests who visited this week. The restaurant opened alongside the park on May 1, 1989, making it one of the last original holdouts from opening day. Nearly four decades of continuous operation is significant, and a refurb this extensive signals Disney is doing more than patching walls. Watch for the reopening announcement to see whether “refresh” means new paint or a new identity.

Turf Club Lounge has already made that jump back from the dead. Disney Food Blog confirms the reopening, and with it comes a new menu. A refurb without a menu refresh is just a paint job, but this one comes with new dishes worth planning a stop for.

Crowd-wise, late August has been a gift. Lightning Brain’s park report from August 31 clocked Slinky Dog Dash down for more than twelve hours straight, from 8:31 AM to 9:01 PM, and it barely registered as a problem. All four Walt Disney World parks sat in the low-percentile basement that Monday. On a day like that, a headliner outage is a shrug rather than a crisis because nothing else had a line either. That’s the trade-off of visiting during the dead zones: outages sting less, but so does everything else.

Out west, Disneyland’s Halloween Time food lineup is drawing verdicts from The DisInsider, with pumpkin treats and seasonal cold brews mostly landing and a few surprising misses. Meanwhile Universal Studios Hollywood has locked a hard date for Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, its first high-speed outdoor coaster, opening September 16 after a long soft-opening stretch since late July. Universal Studios Florida is building its own version, but that’s a separate project running on its own clock. Competitive pressure on WDW just ticked up a notch, even if the Florida version is still years out.

The Shows

Disney+ and Hulu are stacking September with volume rather than one marquee event. MickeyBlog’s roundup shows a heavy Hulu slate landing September 1, including Coraline, Moneyball, Jennifer’s Body, and The Bob’s Burgers Movie, alongside Star Wars and Chad Powers content elsewhere in the lineup. On the younger end, Disney Jr.’s Ariel: The Little Mermaid, Magicampers, and CoComelon: The Melon Patch round out a strong family slate for September. The platform excels in the fall by burying a couple of big titles inside a wall of comfort-watch content.

Not every long-gestating project is moving that smoothly. Jim Cummings delivered what MickeyBlog calls a disappointing update on Darkwing Duck, the DuckTales spinoff first announced back in 2020 with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg producing through Point Grey Pictures. Six years is a long runway for a project that once looked like a lock. Whatever stalled it, the caped crusader isn’t landing on a schedule anyone can point to right now.

The Business

Disney Cruise Line just wrote in a new port. The Disney Wish will call at Port Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on October 27, 2027, the ship’s first visit there and the first Disney ship call on the island since the Disney Magic stopped by in October 2017. Ten years between visits is a real gap, long enough that an entire cohort of Castaway Club members has never had the option. Itinerary tweaks are usually noise, but a decade-long return to a port signals that DCL is widening its map instead of rotating the same rotation.

The deals are widening too. DCL Blog counts 148 dates carrying special offers as of August 31, stretching out to late September 2027 and departing from Fort Lauderdale, Galveston, New York, Port Canaveral, San Diego, and Vancouver. The Disney Treasure is leading that push. That’s an unusually deep discount window for a line that doesn’t normally need to work this hard to fill cabins. DCL is simultaneously expanding where it sails and discounting harder to fill the ships it already has.

The Details

Walt Disney Imagineering pulled back the curtain on a full model for Piston Peak National Park at D23 Expo, the Cars-themed land coming to Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland within the next few years. EYNTK reports the reaction has flipped: what started as a rocky announcement, full of fan anxiety, has settled into general agreement that this is a worthy change for the land. Seeing a physical model does more to calm nerves than any renderings ever could. If the online temperature has actually cooled, that’s the Imagineering team’s win to bank.

Food coverage this week leaned into two different holidays at once. Attractions Magazine ran down the best bites at Halloween Horror Nights 35 in Orlando, from twisted carnival eats to an Ozzy-inspired cake, while AllEars took the opposite angle, flagging the three worst things eaten in Disney World this month. Not every snack earns the hype, and a blog willing to name the misses does its readers a favor the marketing never will.

On the trip-planning side, WDW Prep School shared a family’s theater-group trip built around a performance at Disney Springs and a Disney-led workshop, plus a strategy for balancing a large group itinerary with actual family downtime: multi-resort stays, low crowds, and skipping Lightning Lanes altogether. The biggest lever in a Disney trip is often the calendar, not the tier of park ticket.
