A Not-So-Scary Party Hollowed Out Magic Kingdom’s Friday Magic Kingdom posted an 8.5-minute median on Friday, down more than 40 percent from its own 30-day baseline and landing at a 2/10. That’s a full two crowd levels below where the park usually sits, and it’s the clearest fingerprint of a party night you’ll find in the data. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party shut the gates to regular day guests at 6:00 PM, and anyone who checked the calendar simply didn’t buy a Friday day ticket. The result: Space Mountain hovered around 15 minutes, and classic Fantasyland spinners like Dumbo, Barnstormer, and the teacups were effective walk-ons all afternoon. Weather had nothing to do with it. Friday was about as good as October gets — clear skies, a high of 80, a cool 59-degree morning. Perfect touring conditions, and still the host park ran light. That’s the party talking, not the forecast. Where the day actually lived Hollywood Studios carried the real touring weight. A 36-minute median put it at a 6/10 — slightly above its own usual rhythm and comfortably the busiest of the four parks for anyone chasing headliners. It peaked at noon with a 50-minute median, the kind of midday crush where a Lightning Lane earns its keep. Tower of Terror also took an hour-long breather late morning, which pushed its displaced riders toward Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and the Toy Story Land queues right as the park hit its daily high. EPCOT ran a touch warm too, a 5/10 on a 16.7-minute median with Food & Wine in full swing. Festival crowds don’t translate cleanly into ride demand — most of those guests are working the booths around World Showcase, not queuing. The telling detail was Journey Into Imagination doubling its typical wait to 10 minutes, the classic sign of guests ducking into air-conditioned attractions between tastings. Animal Kingdom sat right on its norm at a 2/10, quiet and easy, with a brief 1:00 PM bump to 25 minutes. Nothing to game there — it was a stroll-in day. Back at Magic Kingdom, the only attractions holding any real line were the heavy hitters, and even those were soft: Buzz Lightyear ran about a third below normal, Space Mountain 40 percent under. The PeopleMover’s 10-minute wait — double its usual — barely registers as a line, but on a day this empty it stood out as one of the few places guests actually bunched up. Downtime report Magic Kingdom’s evening was choppy once the party took over. Big Thunder Mountain went down for two full hours starting at 7:21 PM, and TRON Lightcycle / Run lost nearly an hour around 8:40 PM — both squarely inside party time, so day guests were already gone and the pain landed on party-ticket holders chasing short lines. Earlier, Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder both opened rough with morning hiccups. EPCOT had the longer closures. Reflections of China was offline for over three and a half hours into the evening, and Frozen Ever After lost its first 90 minutes of the day — a frustrating miss for rope-droppers, since Frozen is one of the few World Showcase attractions worth beating the crowd to. Spaceship Earth stumbled twice, briefly, bookending the day. Today’s outlook — Saturday, October 24 Expect a real shift. Our engine calls Magic Kingdom a 7/10 today (around a 25-minute median), a sharp rebound now that there’s no party capping the day — this is the one to avoid if you have flexibility. Hollywood Studios and EPCOT both read 6/10 (roughly 39 and 30 minutes), with Food & Wine and Wine & Dine Half Marathon weekend adding foot traffic at EPCOT. Animal Kingdom is the best play at a 5/10 (about 25 minutes) — still busier than a typical day, but the softest of the four and a smart rope-drop target. Honesty check on yesterday’s forecast: the engine nailed Magic Kingdom (2/10, dead on) but missed in the other direction, pegging Animal Kingdom at a 5 when it came in at a 2, and underselling Hollywood Studios by two levels. So treat today’s Animal Kingdom “best park” call as the right direction with a wide margin — get there early regardless, and don’t be shocked if afternoon waits run lighter than the number suggests.
