A Walk-On Sunday Across All Four Parks

Every single Walt Disney World park posted a median wait in the low-percentile basement on Sunday, August 30. Magic Kingdom bottomed out at an 8-minute median. Animal Kingdom sat under 18. Even Hollywood Studios, which rarely lets guests breathe, ran a 25-minute median. Two parks stand out for how far they fell below their own footing: Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom both ran two crowd levels under their 30-day norms. If you were in the parks Sunday, you basically had the run of the place.

The setup explains most of it. Magic Kingdom hosted Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which closes the park to regular day guests at 6:00 PM. That early cutoff pulls day-ticket demand down all day, not just at night, and it shows: MK’s 8.1-minute median was roughly half its 30-day average. Weather wasn’t the driver here — it was a warm, partly cloudy day topping out near 91°F with a brief bit of rain, nothing that emptied queues on its own.

Where the Quiet Landed Hardest

Hollywood Studios is the more interesting case, because there was no party pushing guests away — it just ran light. A 25-minute median is a comfortable touring day at a park where 35 is normal, and headliners followed suit. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run sat at 15 minutes, half its typical wait. The noon peak of 40 minutes was as heavy as it got, and even that cleared quickly.

Magic Kingdom’s party-day suppression was textbook. With the clock running toward that 6:00 PM closure, waits stayed flat and low all afternoon. Space Mountain at 15 minutes, Pirates and the Barnstormer at 5, Astro Orbiter walk-on — this was a morning-person’s dream. The noon “peak” topped out at a 10-minute median, which is barely a peak at all.

Animal Kingdom leaned on an early rhythm, cresting at 10:00 AM with a 35-minute median before settling into the teens. Expedition Everest ran 10 minutes, well below its usual 25, and Na’vi River Journey was cut in half to 20. Kali River Rapids at 10 minutes is expected in this heat — guests dodge the soaking when it’s 90 degrees out.

EPCOT was the one park sitting right on its baseline, essentially unchanged from its 30-day norm and peaking late at 6:00 PM as Food & Wine guests drifted through World Showcase. The standout there was Living with the Land, which doubled to a 10-minute wait — modest in absolute terms, but a reliable tell that guests were ducking into the greenhouse boats to cool off between food booths.

Downtime Report

The afternoon was rougher on reliability than on crowds. At Hollywood Studios, Slinky Dog Dash was offline twice — an hour first thing in the morning, then again from 7:01 PM until close, a stretch of nearly two and a half hours that swallowed prime evening ride time in Toy Story Land. Rise of the Resistance and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway each took multiple hits through the day, so Studios guests spent real energy rerouting even on a light day.

Over at Magic Kingdom, Space Mountain went down at 10:08 PM and did not reopen, cutting the night short for anyone hoping to close out the party on Tomorrowland’s headliner. EPCOT saw a busy midday: Frozen Ever After, Test Track, Remy’s, and Figment all logged closures north of 50 minutes across the afternoon. None of these were weather-driven — they read as scattered mechanical stops rather than a single storm event.

Today’s Forecast: Monday, August 31

Yesterday’s engine call deserves an honest scorecard. It nailed Magic Kingdom (predicted 1, actual 1) and correctly flagged the best and avoid parks, but it ran three levels too hot on EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom — the resort was quieter than the model expected across the board. Worth keeping in mind as we look at today.

With the party gone and a normal operating schedule back, Magic Kingdom jumps to a 6/10 with an expected 23-minute median — the busiest park today and the one to avoid if you can. Hollywood Studios lands at 3/10 (34 min), EPCOT at 3/10 (26 min), and Animal Kingdom at 3/10 (21 min), making Animal Kingdom your best bet. This is a Good-To-Go day, so Disney is nudging local pass holders in, and Food & Wine keeps EPCOT humming into the evening. Early theme park entry is available to resort guests. The play: hit Animal Kingdom or Studios early, save Magic Kingdom for late in the day once the morning rush thins, and expect a warm, mostly clear afternoon near 91°F.
