Hollywood Studios Ran Light on Saturday — a 5/10 With Median Waits Below the Monthly Average

On a summer Saturday, you’d expect Hollywood Studios to be the park you fight through. Instead it was the one park that eased off. Median waits landed at 33.6 minutes, about 16% under its own 30-day average and two full crowd levels below the 6/10 the park normally posts. For a peak-season weekend, that’s the number worth planning around: the resort’s usual pressure cooker was the most comfortable big-headliner park on the property.

Weather stayed mostly cooperative — 91.5°F, partly cloudy, just a tenth of an inch of rain that arrived late in the evening. So this wasn’t a storm chasing people indoors. It was a genuinely softer day at the Studios, and the data backs it up.

Park by Park

Hollywood Studios is the standout. A 33.6-minute median with a noon peak of 45 minutes means most of the day was walk-on-adjacent by Studios standards. The morning had one real wrinkle: Rise of the Resistance was offline from 8:31 to 10:40 AM, more than two hours right at rope drop. Guests who lined up for it early got nothing; those who pivoted to Slinky Dog or Tower of Terror first came out ahead. If you built a Studios day around an early Rise ride, this was a frustrating start — but the rest of the park stayed manageable.

Animal Kingdom pulled the other direction, climbing about 16% above its baseline to a 28.9-minute median and a 7/10. The peak came early — 10:00 AM at 45 minutes — which is the classic Animal Kingdom rhythm: guests hit Pandora and the safari first, then the park thins as the heat builds. Expedition Everest added a late-afternoon gap, down 83 minutes from 4:46 PM, pushing Everest fans toward Kilimanjaro Safaris and Kali during the window.

Magic Kingdom sat exactly on its baseline — a flat 15-minute median — but the day was defined by attraction downtime rather than crowds. Space Mountain, Big Thunder (three separate stretches), Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and the PeopleMover all took extended midday breaks. With that many Tomorrowland and Frontierland headliners rotating offline through the afternoon, the 3:00 PM peak of 25 minutes reflects guests bunching onto whatever was actually running. Prince Charming Regal Carrousel doubling to a 10-minute wait is the small tell — people ride what’s open.

EPCOT was the quiet corner at a 3/10, median 15.4 minutes, essentially flat to its norm. Living with the Land at 5 minutes and short Fantasyland-style waits elsewhere say the same thing: World Showcase eating (Fantasmic aside) and easy touring. Spaceship Earth’s 68-minute midday outage was the only real disruption.

Downtime

The evening rain band from 7:13 to 8:31 PM triggered weather-protocol closures across four outdoor rides — Test Track, Slinky Dog Dash, Journey of Water, and Big Thunder — a short, contained event rather than a string of breakdowns. The bigger guest impact was earlier and mechanical: Magic Kingdom’s afternoon was a rotating cast of downed mountains. Between roughly 11 AM and 6 PM, Space Mountain, Big Thunder, Seven Dwarfs, and the PeopleMover each went down for stretches over 90 minutes. At Hollywood Studios, Rise of the Resistance’s two-hour morning closure was the single most consequential outage — it hit right when the standby line matters most.

Today’s Outlook — Sunday, August 9

The engine calls for a genuinely light Sunday across the board. EPCOT is the best park at a 2/10, roughly 25-minute waits — the calmest option on property. Magic Kingdom sits at 4/10 (around 20 minutes) and Hollywood Studios at 3/10 (about 34 minutes), continuing yesterday’s softer Studios trend. Animal Kingdom is the one to avoid at 4/10, near 25-minute waits and the busiest of the four — its early-morning rush is the pattern to beat, so ride Pandora and the safari before 10 AM or wait until late afternoon.

Early theme park entry is available today for eligible resort guests at all four parks — worth using at EPCOT or Animal Kingdom especially. Expect heat near 93°F with about a 49% morning rain chance that dries out by midday, then clears. Fantasmic runs at the Studios tonight.

Honesty check on yesterday’s forecast: the engine nailed Animal Kingdom (7/10, dead on) and got Magic Kingdom within a level, but badly overshot Hollywood Studios — it predicted a 9/10 and the park delivered a 5. That miss is exactly why today’s softer Studios call deserves a little humility, even if the direction now matches what we saw.
