Animal Kingdom Ran Hot Against Itself on a 97-Degree Friday — Even If the Board Never Showed It

Animal Kingdom posted a 24.8-minute median on Friday, July 10 — a hair under a quarter above its own summer baseline of 20 minutes. That’s the sharpest move any park made against its own norm all day, and yet it still scored a 3/10. The reason is calibration: Animal Kingdom carries a high baseline, so a busier-than-usual day there still tours comfortably. The takeaway for a guest is simple and reassuring — nowhere on property punished you Friday. Four parks, four medians clustered between 15 and 36 minutes. On a day that topped out near 97 degrees, that’s about as gentle as a peak-summer Friday gets.

The Four-Park Picture

Start with Animal Kingdom, because it flipped the usual order. Normally it outdraws EPCOT; Friday, EPCOT’s 4/10 edged it on the crowd-level scale even though Animal Kingdom’s raw waits ran higher. The park peaked at noon around 40 minutes, right when the heat became a factor and guests crowded into whatever had shade and air conditioning. Expedition Everest opened the morning with a brief 27-minute hiccup before 8 AM, but that was a footnote — this was a park quietly filling in, not spiking.

Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom tied at 5/10, the two heaviest boards of the day. Studios sat almost exactly on its baseline at 35.4 minutes and peaked early — 45-minute medians at 11 AM — as rope-drop crowds stacked onto the headliners before the afternoon sun chased people toward indoor shows. Magic Kingdom did the opposite, riding flat all day and topping out at 5 PM near 20 minutes. That’s a classic hot-day MK shape: mornings are tolerable, and the real squeeze arrives late afternoon when parade and evening-show positioning collides with returning midday nappers.

EPCOT landed at 4/10 with a 15.7-minute median, and its 10 AM peak of 25 minutes tells you the morning was the story there — more on that below. Living with the Land ran light at 5 minutes, and Magic Kingdom’s quiet spots stayed quiet too: the Magic Carpets of Aladdin and Tomorrowland Speedway both undercut their usual waits. The one oddball was Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, doubling to 10 minutes — a tiny number, but a sign of where stroller-bound families parked themselves midday.

Where the Day Got Rough

EPCOT’s morning was the operational sore spot. Frozen Ever After stayed down from 8:31 AM until just after noon — nearly four hours of the park’s most in-demand attraction offline — while Test Track went dark on the same 8:31 clock and didn’t recover until almost 11. Spaceship Earth added an hour-long gap mid-morning. That’s three marquee rides missing at once during rope drop, and it explains the 10 AM crowd-level peak: guests funneled into the pavilions and World Showcase openings with fewer places to go. Test Track then stumbled a second time in the early evening, a frustrating repeat for anyone who waited out the morning.

At Magic Kingdom, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was unavailable for a full four hours starting at 3:35 PM — genuinely painful timing on a 97-degree afternoon when a soak-you water ride is exactly what guests were hunting for. Hollywood Studios lost Slinky Dog Dash for nearly two hours after lunch and Rise of the Resistance for over an hour in the early evening, thinning the options right as the pre-Fantasmic! crowd built.

Today’s Outlook — Saturday, July 11

Yesterday’s call to expect a moderate, tightly-bunched board held up well, and Saturday should run warmer in every sense. Summer travel is at full family-vacation volume and the Ripken Experience is drawing athlete families into evening park visits — crowd pressure is elevated, and Saturdays run heavier than Fridays as a rule. Expect Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios in the 5-7/10 range, with EPCOT and Animal Kingdom at 5-6/10. Do not bank on any park staying as light as Friday’s numbers. The forecast is friendly — mostly clear, high near 94, rain chances fading to zero by afternoon — so plan headliners at rope drop, retreat to indoor attractions and a long lunch through the 2-5 PM heat, and circle back after 6 as temperatures ease.
