The Garden State does show up. It just doesn’t hit as hard as the legend says.

Here is the number that reframes the entire Jersey Week myth. During the first full week of November 2025, the four Walt Disney World parks averaged a 27.8-minute posted standby wait between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. One week earlier — the dead-quiet end of October — that same figure was 23.0 minutes. And the ordinary low-season week we measured in early September? 27.0 minutes.

The short version, with A.I. Dan

So the famous “Jersey Week invasion” landed almost exactly on top of a sleepy September Tuesday. It is a real, measurable bump — roughly 20 to 25 percent over the week before it — but it ranks dead last among every regional crowd wave we track. The folklore is louder than the data. Let’s untangle why.

What Jersey Week actually is

Every early November, the New Jersey Education Association convention shuts New Jersey public schools statewide for two days, and a chunk of the Garden State points its minivans at Orlando. The 2025 convention ran Thursday–Friday, November 6–7. The 2024 edition ran November 7–8. For 2026, district calendars currently point to Thursday–Friday, November 5–6 — meaning Jersey Week 2026 is the week of roughly November 2–8. (NJEA had not posted an official 2026 listing as of this writing, so treat those exact dates as provisional and confirm with njea.org before booking.)

Methodology

We pulled posted standby wait times from Lightning Brain’s historical database — five-minute readings across all active attractions at the four parks. To compare crowd levels rather than park hours, every figure here is the average posted wait during the midday core (11 a.m.–4 p.m.), a window that sits inside operating hours at all four parks and sidesteps the early closures party nights force on Magic Kingdom. Each daily average rests on roughly 10,000 readings; each weekly window on about 70,000. We analyzed October–November for both 2025 and 2024.

Finding 1: The bump is real and it repeats

Across two years, the first full week of November runs measurably busier than the quiet week that precedes it. The consistency matters — a one-year blip could be noise, but the same shape in both years is a signal.

Week (midday avg wait) 2025 2024
Week before 23.0 min 23.9 min
Jersey Week 27.8 min 29.9 min
Week after 29.1 min 26.2 min
Two weeks after 25.0 min 23.8 min

In 2024 the pattern is textbook: Jersey Week is the clear local peak, up 25 percent over the week before and higher than the week after. In 2025 it’s messier — Jersey Week beat the prior week by 21 percent, but the following week edged it out. That’s not Jersey crowds lingering; it’s Veterans Day. November 10–11, 2025 formed a holiday long weekend, and that Monday alone hit 35.3 minutes, the single busiest day of the early-November stretch. File that away: the “week after” is its own event.

Finding 2: The day-by-day shape doesn’t build the way the legend claims

The folk theory says crowds swell through the Thursday–Friday school closures and crest over the weekend. The data only half agrees.

Day 2025 (Nov 3–9) 2024 (Nov 4–10)
Monday 32.8 33.2
Tuesday 26.8 29.4
Wednesday 25.7 23.1
Thursday (NJEA) 29.1 31.7
Friday (NJEA) 23.4 27.6
Saturday 29.5 32.8
Sunday 27.1 31.5

Two things jump out. First, Monday is often the busiest day of the week — a leftover from the preceding weekend and early arrivals, not the convention. Second, and counterintuitively, the Friday of the actual school closure is one of the softest days both years. The reason is the same confounder that colors everything at Magic Kingdom in November, which we’ll get to next: Friday, November 7, 2025 was the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and party days thin out daytime standby. The real crest is Saturday, a normal weekend peak that would spike with or without New Jersey.

Finding 3: EPCOT and Hollywood Studios feel it most

Break the bump down by park and the invasion has a clear address.

Park (2024 midday avg) Week before Jersey Week Change
EPCOT 23.0 31.6 +37%
Hollywood Studios 33.7 42.8 +27%
Animal Kingdom 26.6 32.0 +20%
Magic Kingdom 19.9 24.2 +22%

EPCOT posts the largest percentage jump, and it’s no mystery: the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival runs straight through November, and a food-and-drink festival is exactly what a long-weekend adult-heavy crowd comes for. Hollywood Studios shows the biggest absolute swing — but Hollywood Studios runs hot every week, so a nine-minute jump there stings more than the same jump elsewhere. The 2025 split looked similar, with the twist that EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom all carried their elevated waits into the Veterans Day week, while Magic Kingdom peaked during Jersey Week itself and then fell back.

That Magic Kingdom detail is the key to the whole misattribution, so let’s follow the confounders.

Finding 4: Half the “surge” is wearing a costume

Three other things happen in early November that have nothing to do with New Jersey, and the legend quietly takes credit for all of them.

  • The runDisney Wine & Dine race weekend — the confounder that isn’t anymore. For years, “Jersey Week” and the Wine & Dine Half Marathon collided on the same weekend, and race crowds got charged to New Jersey’s account. That era is over. Wine & Dine ran October 31–November 3 in 2024, moved up to October 23–26 in 2025, and is set for October 22–25 in 2026 — two full weekends before Jersey Week. If you blame the race for Jersey Week crowds in 2026, you’re a month off.
  • Christmas party season. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party’s first 2025 night was Friday, November 7 — inside Jersey Week. On party nights Magic Kingdom closes to day guests at 6 p.m. and runs reduced daytime capacity, which actually suppresses midday standby. That’s why Magic Kingdom’s Friday numbers sag. The “party crowds” you feel are an evening phenomenon on a separate ticket, not a daytime Jersey wave.
  • Veterans Day. As shown above, the long weekend immediately after Jersey Week produced 2025’s single busiest November day. People experience “two busy weeks in early November” and compress the memory into one legendary invasion.

Finding 5: Where Jersey Week ranks among real crowd waves

Put Jersey Week on the same scale as the crowd events people actually dread, all measured identically in 2025, and it falls to the bottom.

Week (2025 midday avg) Avg wait
Presidents’ Week (February) 39.7 min
Easter Week (April) 39.2 min
Spring Break (mid-March) 35.9 min
Thanksgiving Week 34.1 min
July 4th Week 31.0 min
Jersey Week 27.8 min
September low season 27.0 min

Jersey Week runs a full 12 minutes below Presidents’ Week and six below Thanksgiving. It sits less than a minute above the quietest week we sampled all year. As a “famous regional invasion,” it’s the junior varsity — a real roster spot, but nowhere near the starting lineup of spring break and the winter holidays.

The verdict: real, but misattributed

Jersey Week is not a myth. The bump is genuine, repeats across two years, shows up in all four parks, and is strongest at EPCOT and Hollywood Studios — a signature consistent with a family-and-adult long-weekend crowd drawn by Food & Wine and school closures up north. Call it a real 20–25 percent nudge.

But the legend is misattributed. The week feels bigger than it is because it’s measured against the deadest stretch of fall; because the Wine & Dine race no longer even shares the weekend; because Christmas party nights and Veterans Day pile their own crowds onto the same two-week stretch; and because a modest 28-minute average is still, by any absolute standard, a wonderful week to be at Disney World.

Practical advice for an early-November 2026 trip

  • Lean in, don’t dodge. Even at its peak, Jersey Week averages under 30 minutes. If early November fits your calendar, book it — you’re getting one of the best crowd-to-weather trades of the year, with holiday overlays already up.
  • If you want it quieter still, go the last week of October. That window ran 23 minutes in 2025, the softest of the season — just know that’s when the Wine & Dine race parks runners around EPCOT and Hollywood Studios on the weekend.
  • Save EPCOT for a weekday. It takes the biggest Jersey Week hit, and Food & Wine weekend crowds are real. A Tuesday or Wednesday there beats a Saturday handily.
  • Watch the bookends, not the middle. The Monday that opens the week and the Veterans Day weekend that follows it both outran the convention days in our data. The actual Thursday–Friday “invasion” is quieter than its reputation.
  • Treat Magic Kingdom party days as a daytime bargain. When the park closes early for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, midday standby actually eases. Ride in the afternoon; the crowd you’re picturing arrives after you’d leave.

Limitations

We measured posted standby waits, not turnstile attendance or actual time in line — posted waits are the best real-time proxy for crowd pressure but Disney manages them. Our deep history covers 2024 and 2025 cleanly; we don’t have the pre-2021 seasons when Wine & Dine genuinely shared the Jersey Week weekend, so the “race crowds” confounder is something we can only confirm has moved away, not reconstruct from its heyday. The 2026 NJEA dates remain provisional until the association posts them officially. And weekly averages smooth over park-specific ride closures that can distort a single attraction’s numbers.

Bottom line

Does New Jersey descend on Orlando in early November? Yes — measurably, repeatably, about a 23 percent bump, loudest at EPCOT. Is it the crowd apocalypse the memes promise? Not close. Jersey Week barely outruns a sleepy September and loses to every spring break on the calendar. It’s real folklore built on a modest fact, inflated by a race that left, a party that starts, and a holiday that follows. Book the week, skip the dread, and enjoy one of the quietest famous weeks Disney World has.
