The one thing to know about October 11–17 Sunday is a wall: a resort-wide 10 out of 10 on the back of the Indigenous Peoples’ Day long weekend. Ride it out or skip it, because the moment the holiday clears, the week opens up: four straight days sitting at a 6, with Animal Kingdom handing you the softest crowds of all. Sunday reads 10 resort-wide, and every park feels it. Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom both hit a 10, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios a 9. Monday eases to a 7 as the holiday itself passes, then Tuesday through Friday all tie as the lightest days of the week at a 6. Saturday ticks back up to a 7 as the weekend returns. The drivers are the holiday weekend, Dallas–Fort Worth and several Atlanta-area school districts on fall break, and the Disney Season Kickoff Soccer Tournament stacking onto the opening weekend. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, pulling Magic Kingdom’s gates closed at 6:00 PM those nights and softening its daytime numbers. Day by day Sunday, October 11: the peak Best park is EPCOT at a 9; avoid Animal Kingdom, which ties Magic Kingdom at a 10. There’s no hiding on a day like this: the holiday weekend, the soccer tournament and fall-break families all land at once. Hollywood Studios carries the week’s single longest predicted wait at 49.7 minutes. Disney’s pricing agrees with the crowds: Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios both top out at $199. If you must go, make it EPCOT, where Food & Wine gives you somewhere to hide between rides. High of 85F with a 77% chance of rain, so pack a poncho. Plan: be at a headliner before the rope drops, then lean on Food & Wine booths through the midday crush. Monday, October 12: the turn Animal Kingdom is the pick at a 6; avoid Magic Kingdom at an 8. The holiday itself keeps Magic Kingdom elevated, but Animal Kingdom is already the calmest board in the resort and the cheapest ticket at $179. Clear skies, a high of 85F, zero rain. Plan: rope drop Flight of Passage, swing to Expedition Everest, and you’ll have the headliners behind you before the park fills in. Tuesday, October 13: Animal Kingdom again Best is Animal Kingdom at a 5; avoid Hollywood Studios at a 7. Magic Kingdom’s first Not-So-Scary night closes its gates to day guests at 6:00 PM, which thins its daytime crowd and nudges a few of those guests toward the other parks. Animal Kingdom’s ticket is the week’s cheapest at $174. Mostly clear, 85F. Plan: early start at Animal Kingdom, then an afternoon at EPCOT (a 6) for Food & Wine as Magic Kingdom shifts into party mode. Wednesday, October 14: the week’s quietest corner Animal Kingdom drops to a 4, the single lightest park-day of the entire week. Best park, easily; avoid Magic Kingdom at an 8. No party here, no holiday, just the midweek lull doing its work. The $174 ticket lines up with the low crowds. A high of 84F with a 26% chance of rain. Plan: this is the day to do Animal Kingdom slowly: rope drop Everest, take your time with Pandora, and still beat the lines you’d see anywhere else. Thursday, October 15: the lightest waits Animal Kingdom holds at a 5 for best; avoid Hollywood Studios at a 7. Magic Kingdom carries the week’s shortest predicted wait at 22.5 minutes and a second Not-So-Scary night at 6:00 PM, so its daytime hours are genuinely manageable before the party takes over. Drizzle and a high of 86F. Plan: a relaxed Magic Kingdom morning works well here. Knock out the mountains early and be out before the party conversion. Friday, October 16: Magic Kingdom’s turn Best flips to Magic Kingdom at a 6; avoid Hollywood Studios at a 7. The third party night keeps Magic Kingdom’s daytime light, and it edges out the pack. Studios stays the busiest board with a 43.1-minute predicted wait and a $199 ticket to match. High of 84F, 41% chance of rain. Plan: Magic Kingdom until the 6:00 PM party cutoff, then hop to EPCOT for the evening. Saturday, October 17: the weekend rebound EPCOT is the call at a 6; avoid Magic Kingdom, which jumps to a 9. No party Saturday, so Magic Kingdom runs a full day and the weekend crowd piles back in. EPCOT and its $194 ticket are the better value. A high of 84F with a 52% chance of rain. Plan: spend the day at EPCOT and save Magic Kingdom for a quieter week. Last week in brief MKEPCOTHSAKSun 10/41124Mon 10/510424Tue 10/61133Wed 10/74121Thu 10/81462Fri 10/96899Sat 10/109889Last week: actual crowd level Last week was a story of two halves. The front end was remarkably quiet. Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday all tied as the lightest days resort-wide at a 2, with Magic Kingdom and EPCOT bottoming out at a 1 on multiple mornings. Then the long-weekend buildup hit: Friday and Saturday tied as the busiest days at an 8. Monday was the odd one out, with Magic Kingdom spiking to a 10 (the heaviest single park-day of the week) while the rest of the resort stayed calm. Reliability is where guests actually felt the week. Test Track at EPCOT was unavailable from Wednesday 8:30 AM for about 12.5 hours, the longest single stretch of downtime anywhere last week, wiping out most of a day for anyone counting on it. Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom was down from Wednesday 8:01 AM for about 9 hours the same day. And Slinky Dog Dash at Hollywood Studios went down Friday at 8:01 AM for about 4 hours (the longest routine breakdown of the week), so rope-droppers who headed straight for it had to pivot fast. How the calendar’s calls did Not bad, calendar! The calls a guest actually acts on held up: the best-park pick was right 5 days out of 7, and the park-to-avoid pick was right 6 out of 7. Picking at random would get you about 1 day in 4. The clearest win came at the end of the week, as the long weekend and the Dallas-area fall break arrived: the calendar steered you away from Hollywood Studios on Thursday and Friday and from Magic Kingdom on Saturday, and all three were the right call. 71%Best park right86%Avoid park right36%Within 1 level68%Best park, 4 wksHow last week's calls did MKEPCOTHSAKSun 10/41called 21called 52called 34called 7Mon 10/510called 84called 72called 64called 7Tue 10/61called 61called 73called 63called 7Wed 10/74called 91called 62called 61called 6Thu 10/81called 74called 66called 72called 7Fri 10/96called 88called 79called 89called 8Sat 10/109called 108called 78called 89called 8Last week: called vs actual (exact on 1 of 28) On the level itself, the crowd calendar’s call a week out came within one level on 10 of 28 park-days (36%), with waits off by 5.4 minutes on average. Over the last 4 weeks it has picked the best park 68% of the time and the park to avoid 57% of the time, so a rough week for levels is one data point, not the story. The biggest miss was Magic Kingdom on Thursday: called a 7, it came in at a 1, with waits of 15.6 minutes against a called 24.2. That was a Halloween party night, which thins the daytime crowd, and the call didn’t account for how much. It wasn’t alone. Of last week’s 18 misses, 17 ran high, with the calendar calling days busier than they turned out. That isn’t a habit yet: over the last 4 weeks the misses split 37 high and 25 low. But last week, the quiet days were quieter than the calendar expected. Open the app once you’re in the park This outlook helps you pick the day; Lightning Brain is what you open once you’re standing in it. On party nights this week, when Magic Kingdom’s gates close at 6:00 PM and those guests scatter across the other three parks, the free Park Hop Advisor shows you how busy all four parks are right now. One glance tells you whether to hop and where. It’s an independent app, free to start, available on the iOS App Store. Grab it at lightningbrain.app or straight from the App Store.
