EPCOT Ran Hot While Its Two Thrill Rides Spent the Day Fighting to Stay Open EPCOT sat two full levels above its own normal on Thursday — a 4/10 on a park that usually lives around a 3 — and it did it the hard way. Food & Wine had the crowds flowing, but the park’s two headliner thrill rides, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Test Track, were down for big chunks of the day. When a park runs busy AND loses its two biggest draws, the demand has to go somewhere, and it did: straight into every other queue on the roster. The weather didn’t help the touring math. An inch of rain fell across the resort with humidity sitting at 91 percent and a high near 82 — a muggy, soggy Thursday that nudged guests toward indoor pavilions, which is exactly where EPCOT’s bottlenecks showed up. Park by Park EPCOT’s 17-minute median (up about 14 percent over its 30-day baseline) undersells how uneven the day felt. With Guardians offline from mid-afternoon into the evening and Test Track breaking down in four separate windows, the slack spilled into the park’s gentle dark rides. Journey Into Imagination With Figment and Gran Fiesta Tour both doubled to 10-minute waits — small numbers, but a clear tell that guests were hunting for anything running and climate-controlled. The 11 AM peak at 25 minutes lines up with the morning rush before the ride breakdowns scattered everyone. Hollywood Studios landed at a 6/10, a 35-minute median that’s essentially dead-on its own norm. Nothing dramatic here on the crowd side — this is just where the park lives. Slinky Dog Dash, though, had a rough morning, which I’ll get to below. Animal Kingdom stayed quiet at a 2/10 and a 15-minute median, right in line with its baseline. The standout was Expedition Everest at a 35-minute average — roughly 75 percent above its typical 20 — driven partly by the mountain going down twice and compressing demand into the windows it was running. Kali River Rapids sat at 5 minutes, which is normal; nobody’s lining up for a soaking when it’s already raining. Magic Kingdom was the quiet corner of the resort, a 1/10 with a 9-minute median — roughly 37 percent below its own baseline. That’s the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party signature: the park closes to day guests at 6 PM, fewer people buy day tickets knowing that, and the ones who come walk onto nearly everything. Even Dumbo climbed to a 20-minute average, which tells you how little else there was to wait for — when Dumbo is your longest line, the park is empty. Pirates and Tiana’s both sat at 5 minutes. The Downtime Story EPCOT took the brunt of it. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was unavailable for about four hours starting at 2:53 PM, and Test Track pieced together more downtime than uptime across the afternoon — four separate outages totaling over seven hours of disruption. Losing both of a park’s thrill anchors at once is why Figment and Gran Fiesta saw their waits double; guests weren’t suddenly fans of Figment, they just needed something open. The evening added Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and Nemo to the list. Over at Hollywood Studios, Slinky Dog Dash had a stop-start morning — down briefly at 8:59, then again from 10:50 to 12:49 — before a final afternoon closure. Rise of the Resistance also stumbled twice. At Magic Kingdom, Space Mountain went offline at 10:42 PM during the party and did not reopen for the night, so party guests lost a Tomorrowland headliner in the final stretch. Today’s Forecast First, an honest scorecard: yesterday’s engine nailed Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, missed EPCOT by a level, and badly undercalled Hollywood Studios — a predicted 3/10 came in at a 6. That one stung, and it’s the kind of miss worth owning. For Friday, October 9, the engine calls Hollywood Studios a 7/10 with a 42-minute expected median — the clear avoid today, pushed by the approaching Indigenous Peoples’ Day long weekend arrivals. EPCOT is also a 7/10 at 32 minutes as Food & Wine keeps drawing. Animal Kingdom lands at a 5/10 and 25 minutes. The play is Magic Kingdom, forecast at just 1/10 with a 16-minute median — another party night keeps the daytime wide open. If you want walk-on touring today, that’s your park; rope-drop it with early entry and you’ll clear the headliners before lunch. Just remember the 6 PM day-guest close.
