The Parks

Joe Rohde just ended two decades of speculation with one clarifying comment. Walt Disney World is replacing the Yeti inside Expedition Everest rather than repairing it. The distinction matters more than it sounds. A repair implies restoring the original 2006 animatronic to its intended full-motion glory. A replacement means Disco Yeti, the strobe-lit stand-in that has defined the ride’s finale for years, gets swapped for a new figure entirely. Rohde, the Imagineer most associated with the attraction’s design, is the closest thing fans have to an oracle here, and his read suggests Disney is building something new rather than fixing something old.

Disney World needs more of that kind of move right now because goodwill is thin on the ground. The resort just eliminated a longtime guest perk days after rolling out fresh price increases, a sequencing choice that reads as tone-deaf even if the two decisions were made independently. Cutting a free discount on something as small as a bottled drink does not save Disney much money. It costs them trust, and trust is the thing park planners actually budget around.

Meanwhile, the AI planning tools meant to smooth over some of that friction are landing unevenly. Amazon’s algorithm is pushing AI-generated Disney guidebooks that read exactly like what they are: content assembled by something that has never stood in line for Expedition Everest. Not all planning tech is created equal, and that distinction matters as more of these tools enter the market.

The Shows

Disney Believe finally has a date, a homeport, and a reason for all those scavenger hunts. The fourth Wish-class ship sets sail December 18, 2027, from Port Everglades, running 4- and 5-night Bahamian itineraries. Disney confirmed the details during a livestream aboard the Disney Dream, closing out weeks of ship’s-log teasers and puzzle hunts that had fans piecing together clues on the Wish itself.

The ship’s offerings lean hard into Disney’s current theatrical strengths. Believe will debut the world’s first stage musical adaptation of Encanto, along with a new Frozen-themed family feast. This is a deliberate pairing of two of Disney’s most bankable modern franchises, put aboard a ship built to be an event in itself. The Skygazers Pub, an observatory-inspired lounge, rounds out the theming with a celestial art motif that assigns zodiac signs to Disney characters, a small design touch that gets photographed and shared long before anyone boards.

On the broadcast side, Disney+ keeps stacking appointment television onto its platform. Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest will livestream on Disney+ for the first time, simulcast with ABC. Ryan Seacrest anchors Times Square alongside Rita Ora, with Julianne Hough and Rob Gronkowski contributing pre-taped segments from Las Vegas and Druski checking in from Chicago. It is also streaming on iHeartRadio, so this is not an exclusive. Disney is widening the net.

That net just got a lot bigger. Disney+ will livestream Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027, alongside ESPN and ABC, marking ESPN’s first-ever Super Bowl production. Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Lisa Salters, and Laura Rutledge call the game, with a Spanish-language telecast also running on ESPN Deportes. Pairing the Super Bowl with New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in the same stretch of announcements is not a coincidence. Disney+ is positioning itself as a live-event platform and a library of back catalog and Marvel sequels.

The Business

Every one of these moves points at the same strategy: turn Disney+ into appointment viewing. A simulcast of a New Year’s Eve special and a first-ever Super Bowl stream are not huge technical lifts, but they are huge signals. Disney wants subscribers logging in on the two nights of the year when non-Disney households are also glued to a screen. Adding a Super Bowl to a streaming service buys a night of mainstream attention that no amount of Marvel marketing can replicate.

The cruise side tells a parallel story. Disney Believe is a testing ground for new intellectual property integration and another ship in the Wish-class lineup. Encanto and Frozen are both proven, both multigenerational, and both easy to merchandise. Betting the ship’s signature experiences on those two franchises is a low-risk, high-return call, and it fits the pattern of Disney building out cruise as a growth tool while park pricing draws complaints on land.

Which brings the two threads together. Disney World tightening guest perks while raising prices, right as Disney Cruise Line rolls out a lavishly themed new ship and Disney+ locks down the Super Bowl, tells you where the company sees its margin. Parks are a mature, saturated business getting squeezed for every dollar. Streaming and cruise are the growth stories, and they are getting the splashy announcements and goodwill investments to match.

The Details

Smaller news fills in the picture. The Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort, open since October 2024, picked up recognition from Central Florida Favorites, a nod that confirms what regulars already knew about the spot’s reputation for breakfast through late-night cocktails. Disney Food Blog has first looks at exclusive holiday merchandise landing at both Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Jollywood Nights, including new Minnie Ears and ornaments, timed for a season that always seems to arrive while Halloween decorations are still up.

Macy’s holiday collections tied to Disney are also live, following the surprise debut of a Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey float at D23 Day 2026, destined for this year’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. And Cinemark is rolling out its Avengers: Doomsday collector’s popcorn bucket and drink cup ahead of the film’s December 18, 2026 release, with Doctor Doom taking over concession stands in a tie-in that suggests Marvel’s marketing machine is already in full swing months before the movie lands.
