EPCOT Was the Only Park Pulling Upstream on Thursday — While a Halloween Party Hollowed Out the Rest On a day when three of Disney’s four parks ran a crowd level or more below their own norms, EPCOT went the other direction. Food & Wine had the place humming at a 17.3-minute median — a 4/10 on our percentile scale, two levels above where this park normally sits. Nothing about the number is scary; waits in the high teens are comfortable touring anywhere. But it made EPCOT the one park on property where you actually had to think about timing, while Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom all but rolled out the carpet. The weather gave everyone a push toward the festival: 88.7°F, partly cloudy, humid, barely a trace of rain. Hot afternoons send guests toward World Showcase shade, air-conditioned pavilions, and cold drinks — and the data shows it. Park by Park EPCOT (4/10, +2 off its norm). The festival is doing exactly what festivals do: drawing bodies without necessarily jamming queues. The park peaked early, at 11:00 AM with a 25-minute median, as guests hit the headliners before settling into booth-crawl mode. The afternoon told the real touring story through breakdowns rather than demand — more on that below. Magic Kingdom (1/10, a full three levels under its norm). Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the clean explanation here. With the park closing to day guests at 6:00 PM, fewer people buy a day ticket in the first place, and the ones who come walk onto nearly everything. A 7.8-minute median says it all. Space Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure sat at 10 minutes, Pirates and Astro Orbiter at 5. If you held a day ticket Thursday, this was a dream morning — just know the gates swing shut for party guests in the early evening. Hollywood Studios (1/10, two levels light). Some of Magic Kingdom’s displaced crowd usually lands here, but not Thursday — the Studios ran its own quiet day at a 23.9-minute median, peaking at 10:00 AM before coasting. That’s a soft landing for a park that routinely posts 35-minute norms. Animal Kingdom (1/10, right on its baseline). The quietest performance relative to expectation was actually the least surprising. A 13.5-minute median with Everest, Safaris, and Kali River Rapids all sitting around 10 minutes is simply an easy day — and in this heat, the low Kali wait is expected, not noteworthy. Where the Day Got Bumpy EPCOT’s afternoon was defined by Test Track. The attraction went down twice back-to-back — roughly 3:13 to 4:48, then again from 4:50 to 6:21 — knocking out one of the park’s two biggest draws for most of the prime-touring window. Guests who’d saved it for the cooler evening hours got shut out. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure added to the frustration with two separate morning-to-midday closures totaling well over two hours, pushing demand onto an already festival-heavy park. At Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster lost its entire morning — down from 9:40 to nearly noon — and dipped out again in the afternoon. On a 1/10 day that stung less than it would have on a busy one; walk-up alternatives were everywhere. Over at Magic Kingdom, Space Mountain closed late and didn’t reopen before the party took over, but with the park this empty, few guests were left to notice. Friday’s Outlook Yesterday’s forecast landed well — Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom hit on the nose, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios each missed by a single level, and both the best-park and avoid-park calls were correct. For Friday, October 2, the engine sees EPCOT at 6/10 (around a 30-minute median) — the park to avoid, with Food & Wine plus early entry stacking demand. Hollywood Studios lands at 4/10 (35 min) and Animal Kingdom at 4/10 (23 min), both climbing back toward normal. Magic Kingdom is the day’s clear winner at 1/10 (16 min) — another Halloween party keeps day crowds thin, so go early and ride everything before the 6:00 PM cutoff. If EPCOT is on your list, hit Test Track and Guardians at rope drop, then let the festival absorb your afternoon.
