Two Hollywood Studios Headliners Sat Dark All Morning

If you walked into Hollywood Studios at rope drop on Wednesday expecting to knock out the big two, you got a rough start. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance never opened with the park — it stayed down from 8:30 AM until 12:31 PM, four straight hours. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway was offline through the same morning window, back up around 11:24. With the park’s two marquee indoor rides both unavailable, demand piled onto everything else, and that’s exactly why Hollywood Studios posted its peak at 9:00 AM — a 45-minute median before lunch, not after.

Weather wasn’t the driver here. It was a warm, sticky day — 90 degrees, partly cloudy, a brief afternoon shower — but these were operational, not storm-related. The real pressure was mechanical, and it reshaped the morning.

Park by Park

EPCOT was the day’s genuine mover. It ran a 17-minute median, about 14% above its own 30-day average — the only park that pulled a full two levels clear of its normal rhythm. In absolute terms this is still a very light park; a 17-minute median means you can walk onto most things. But the signal matters: Food & Wine is drawing people through International Gateway and World Showcase, and it’s showing up in the queues. Living with the Land climbed to a 15-minute average, triple its usual five — classic festival behavior, with guests ducking into a cool, slow-moving boat ride between food booths. The morning peak hit at 8:00 AM (a 30-minute median), front-loaded by early entry before the booths opened.

Hollywood Studios landed at a 32-minute median, actually a touch below its own baseline despite the chaos. That’s the quirk of losing two headliners: the rides that were open absorbed the crowd, but the park-wide median stayed manageable for anyone who pivoted to the open attractions early. Rise’s 85-minute average for the day is entirely a function of the post-noon surge when it finally reopened and everyone who’d been waiting pounced.

Magic Kingdom was textbook routine — a 14-minute median, right on its norm, peaking at 1:00 PM. The only mild wrinkles were in Fantasyland, where Barnstormer, Dumbo, small world, and Under the Sea all ran double their usual single-digit waits. Nothing alarming; just normal midday clustering around the family rides. Jungle Cruise at 40 minutes was the one spot worth a Lightning Lane.

Animal Kingdom was the quietest corner of the resort at a 12-minute median, roughly a fifth below its own average. Kali River Rapids sat at just 10 minutes — expected on a hot-but-not-scorching day when guests are choosier about getting soaked, and it also took a weather closure in the afternoon.

Downtime Impact

The morning Hollywood Studios outages were the headline disruption — four hours without Rise of the Resistance is a touring-plan wrecker, and the 9 AM wait spike shows exactly where that displaced demand went. Over at EPCOT, the afternoon was choppy: Test Track down for over two hours, Journey of Water offline twice (including a long evening stretch past 8:50 PM), and Remy’s hiccuping through midday. A brief shower between 2:09 and 3:07 PM also triggered weather-protocol closures on four outdoor attractions — Slinky Dog Dash, Kali River Rapids, and both Walt Disney World Railroad stations — a passing band, not a day-ender, but enough to shuffle guests indoors for an hour.

Our engine calls Magic Kingdom a 6/10 today (around a 22-minute median) and flags it as the park to avoid — up from yesterday’s 4, driven by early entry and strong recent same-day numbers. Hollywood Studios sits at 3/10 (about 33 minutes), EPCOT at 2/10 (around 25 minutes) with Food & Wine still in play, and Animal Kingdom is the best bet at 1/10 (roughly 17 minutes). One honest note: yesterday’s forecast badly underrated Hollywood Studios — we called a 3 and it came in at a 6 once those ride closures concentrated the crowd. That’s the kind of operational swing no model catches cleanly. Today also lands on an observed Good-To-Go Day, so Disney is nudging local pass holders in and expecting lighter overall attendance. Start at Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios early, and save Magic Kingdom for late evening.
