Hollywood Studios Kept It Easy on Saturday — a 34-Minute Median at the Resort’s Busiest Park

Hollywood Studios turned in a 34-minute median on Saturday, August 15 — a 5/10 that, for the park carrying the highest baseline on property, reads as a genuinely comfortable day. That’s about 15% under its own 30-day average, and it lands two full levels below the roughly 6/10 the park usually posts in peak summer. This isn’t a one-off, either: HS has been running softer than its gravity would suggest for a stretch now. If you’ve been putting off a Studios day waiting for the crowds to break, Saturday was the break.

Inside the Studios, the only real friction was self-inflicted. Star Tours doubled up to a 10-minute average — nothing punishing, but a rare sight for a ride that usually sits at a walk-on 5. Everything else pointed the other way: Alien Swirling Saucers ran a third under its typical wait at 20 minutes, and even with a midday peak of 45 minutes at noon, the afternoon stayed workable. Warm and mostly clear at 96 degrees, so the air-conditioned queues did their usual magnetic work.

Animal Kingdom went the opposite direction. At a 30-minute median, it ran roughly 22% above its own norm — a 6/10 day that nudged the park above where it normally sits in mid-August. Noon was the pinch point here too, with medians hitting 45 minutes before the afternoon heat thinned the walkways. For a park that usually offers the calmest touring of the four, that’s worth planning around: rope-drop the headliners or wait until evening.

EPCOT stayed quiet on paper — a 16-minute median and a 2/10 — but the number undersells how bumpy the day actually felt, thanks to a broken-down spine ride (more below). The 8 AM peak of 25 minutes reflects early-entry guests hitting the front of the park before the rest of World Celebration woke up. Magic Kingdom was the calmest of the bunch, a 3/10 at under 13 minutes, running about 16% below its baseline. The PeopleMover, Mad Tea Party, and Magic Carpets all sat at half their usual waits, and Pirates cruised at a 10-minute walk-on.

Downtime Report

EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth had the day from another dimension. The ride stacked up three separate outages — late morning, early afternoon, and then a marathon closure from 4:25 PM straight through 9:00 PM. Losing the park’s signature air-conditioned people-eater for most of the afternoon and all of the evening pushed guests toward the pavilions, and Journey Into Imagination followed it down for over an hour in the evening. Over at Magic Kingdom, “it’s a small world” was offline more than three hours through midday, and Haunted Mansion dropped for over an hour in the late afternoon. Animal Kingdom lost Expedition Everest for the back half of the evening.

A brief rain-protocol closure hit around 4:38 PM despite mostly clear skies, briefly idling Test Track, Journey of Water, and Slinky Dog Dash before things reopened by early evening. Short and self-resolving — more a blip than a disruption.

Today’s Prediction — Sunday, August 16

The engine calls Animal Kingdom the park to avoid today: a 5/10 at a 25-minute expected median, extending yesterday’s above-norm run. EPCOT is the clear play at a 1/10 and 23 minutes — the best value on property this morning. Magic Kingdom lands at a 4/10 (20 minutes) and Hollywood Studios at a 3/10 (34 minutes), keeping its recent soft streak intact.

Honesty check: yesterday’s forecast overshot Magic Kingdom and EPCOT by two levels each — we called them busier than they turned out to be, though the wait-time errors stayed within two minutes and the best-park call landed. Today, hit EPCOT at early entry, save Animal Kingdom’s headliners for rope drop or after dinner. Weather is a factor: 93 degrees with a 32–35% rain chance through midday, so build indoor options into your afternoon.
