Averages are a trap. Lightning Brain’s look at seasonal wait time variance found that July 2025 and December 2025 posted nearly identical midday averages at Walt Disney World’s headliners, 31.4 minutes versus 32.1. Read only the average and you’d plan both trips the same way. You’d be wrong. July’s range ran from a 24-minute floor to a 36.5-minute peak, a 12-minute swing between the slow day and the packed one. December compressed that range down near 22 minutes on the low end. Same average, different gamble. The lesson for anyone building a trip around a crowd calendar: the number on the page tells you less than the spread underneath it.

The daily data backs this up in real time. Tuesday, July 28, split Walt Disney World cleanly into two experiences. Three parks toured easy. Magic Kingdom carried the day’s weight, posting a 16.9-minute median that reads mild on paper but lands as an 8 out of 10 on the park’s own low-baseline scale, busier than roughly three-quarters of its past year. Fantasyland and Tomorrowland stacked up the way they always do when Magic Kingdom gets crowded. If you were touring Epcot or Animal Kingdom that day, you had no idea.

Animal Kingdom’s horticulture team, meanwhile, is celebrating a smaller win. The banyan tree fronting Yak & Yeti in Asia took a hard pruning after a deep freeze forced heavy cutting earlier this year. A recent check found the canopy filled back in and the tree looking, by BlogMickey’s account, excellent. Trees don’t get comeback stories often. This one earned it.

Comeback stories aside, Animal Kingdom Lodge guests should brace for construction. Disney Tourist Blog reports new refurbishment projects hitting both Jambo House and Kidani Village, starting next month and running through the rest of the year, stacked on top of work already scheduled into Winter 2027. The specifics land hardest at Kidani, where BlogMickey confirms the main lobby and primary entrance close beginning August 17 for nearly two months. Guests lose the gift shop, both lobby corridors, the arcade, the laundry room, and the outdoor terrace observation deck at various points between August and November because this is more than a cosmetic touch-up. Anyone booked at Kidani this fall needs to know what they’re walking into before they walk into it.

Over at Disneyland Resort, Downtown Disney’s churn continues. Pandora has reopened with a reimagined look, the latest entry in a district that keeps swapping storefronts and décor faster than guests can keep a mental map of it. Earl of Sandwich got an update too. Downtown Disney in 2026 rewards guests who haven’t visited in a while, because it won’t look like they remember.

The Shows

Marvel used Comic-Con to remind everyone who still runs the room. Kevin Feige led a Hall H presentation that covered a full Avengers: Doomsday panel, announced an all-new Ghost Rider film starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Shawn Levy for 2028, and delivered a Black Panther 3 reveal in which director Ryan Coogler introduced David Jonsson as the new Black Panther. Marvel Studios used these three franchise-defining announcements to signal its intent to keep controlling the cultural conversation heading into the back half of the decade.

That control extends past the studio’s own panel. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now tracking for an opening between $180 million and up, according to Deadline’s early numbers as reported by The DisInsider. Tom Holland’s fourth outing as the character is positioned for box office history before a single ticket sells to the general public. Between the Comic-Con reveals and the Spider-Man tracking, Marvel’s message this month is that the pipeline is compounding rather than slowing down.

The Business

Discovery Cove has been ordered by the National Labor Relations Board to recognize its maintenance divers’ union, bargain in good faith, and post a labor law violation notice, following a federal ruling detailed by Attractions Magazine. This narrow story involving one park and one small bargaining unit reminds us that labor disputes at theme park operators don’t stay contained to the shop floor. They end up as federal rulings with public notices attached.

Disney Cruise Line has a cleaner story to tell. The line will hold a livestream event on October 7 revealing details of the Disney Believe, the fleet’s next new build slated for 2027. Ninth-ship rumors have circulated since Josh D’Amaro confirmed the Believe back in March, but a specific date changes the conversation from speculation to countdown. After months of “coming soon,” a calendar entry counts as real news.

Disney Cruise Line is also putting resources into the destinations it depends on. The Play Project, its community sports initiative in the Bahamas, is expanding with new collaborators including ESPN, delivering refurbished baseball fields, basketball courts, and track and field grounds across Eleuthera, Nassau, and Abaco. Cruise lines live and die by the health of their port relationships. Disney is investing directly in the communities that make Castaway Cay and its Bahamian itineraries work.

The Details

Not every Disney story needs a keynote. runDisney has revealed a new virtual event, a Halloween-themed race guests can run from anywhere, treadmill or hometown streets substituting for the actual course. It’s a small addition, but virtual races have quietly become their own category for fans who can’t get to Florida for race weekend but still want the medal.

Walt Disney Imagineering’s YouTube series Imagineer That! is back with new episodes featuring Tom Morrow 2.0 walking through the stories behind favorite attractions, according to Disney Parks Blog. For anyone chasing the Imagineering career path or just curious how the sausage gets made, it’s a direct line into the process, no theme park ticket required.

And in the Bahamas, DCL Blog has published a Castaway Cay photo scavenger hunt built during a May 2025 cruise, designed with a range of difficulty and aimed at pulling guests toward the less-traveled corners of the island. Free downloadable PDFs provide real incentive to wander past the hammocks. Sometimes the best content is just a better excuse to explore somewhere you’ve already been.
