EPCOT Ran Three Levels Hot on Monday While Hollywood Studios Lost Its Second Headliner Before Lunch

The park that usually coasts through a summer weekday didn’t on Monday, July 27. EPCOT posted a median wait of 20.3 minutes — a 6/10 on the percentile scale, and a full three levels above its own 30-day norm. For a park whose typical day sits around a 3, that’s the sharpest single-park move of the day. Guests who penciled EPCOT in as their easy-touring option found something closer to a genuinely busy park, with a noon peak pushing the median to 35 minutes and even Journey Into Imagination With Figment — usually a walk-on — holding a 20-minute line all afternoon.

Summer vacation is the engine here. With families at peak travel and no single park drawing them off with a party, demand spread across the resort, and EPCOT absorbed more than its share. The weather didn’t help thin it out either: 90.7°F, mostly cloudy, and only about a third of an inch of rain that never became a real storm. Warm and sticky, not washed out.

Where the Waits Landed

Hollywood Studios was the busiest park on the board, a Busy 8/10 at a 38.6-minute median, and its morning tells the story — an 11 AM peak of 50 minutes as rope-drop crowds funneled into a park that was already short a marquee ride (more on that below). At 8/10 it’s running two levels above its own baseline, so the crowds felt heavier than the calendar alone would suggest.

Magic Kingdom looks like the outlier that isn’t. Its 7/10 rating rides on a 15.9-minute median — barely above the 30-day average — because MK’s low baseline means small absolute waits still rank high against its own year. The telling detail is the shape of the day: MK peaked late, at 4 PM (25-minute median), as guests drifted over from EPCOT and the Studios in the afternoon. Fantasyland spinners did the heavy lifting, with Magic Carpets of Aladdin (15 min), Tomorrowland Speedway (25), Dumbo and Mad Tea Party (10 each) all running two to three times their usual lines.

Animal Kingdom rounded things out at a Moderate 5/10, its 25.8-minute median up 29% over a soft 30-day stretch. A 1 PM peak of 45 minutes is standard midday build for the park — comfortable touring, not a crush.

The Downtime That Shaped the Day

Hollywood Studios spent most of Monday down a headliner. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway went offline at 12:46 PM, came back briefly, then closed again at 1:49 PM and never reopened — roughly ten hours of the day with one of the park’s top-tier attractions unavailable. Slinky Dog Dash added a 78-minute afternoon closure on top of it, so for a stretch after 2 PM, Toy Story Land and the Chinese Theater were both handing their crowds elsewhere. That pressure is a big part of why the Studios’ morning ran so hot.

EPCOT’s rough patch came early. Between roughly 9 and 11 AM, Test Track, Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Spaceship Earth were all down at once — four of the park’s biggest draws offline during prime rope-drop hours. That bottleneck pushed guests onto whatever was running and helps explain the elevated waits on second-tier attractions like Figment. Magic Kingdom had its own morning gap with Big Thunder Mountain and Country Bear Musical Jamboree both down before noon, plus Mickey’s PhilharMagic going offline at 6:16 PM for the rest of the night.

Today’s Outlook — Tuesday, July 28

The engine calls for Hollywood Studios at 7/10 (43-minute median) — the avoid park, driven by yesterday’s 46-minute peak and last week’s matching numbers. EPCOT is the best play at 4/10 (28-minute expected wait), a real cool-down from Monday’s spike. Animal Kingdom sits at 6/10 (28 min) and Magic Kingdom at 6/10 (22 min). Early theme park entry is available across all four parks for eligible resort guests, and a 92°F high means afternoon heat will do its usual work of thinning outdoor queues.

Honesty check: yesterday’s forecast missed badly on the Studios, calling a 4 that came in at an 8, and undershot EPCOT by two levels. So take today’s EPCOT-is-quiet call as the plan but keep an eye on the morning — if those four EPCOT headliners open clean today, waits should stay genuinely low. Rope-drop the Studios if it’s on your list, then let it go by midday.
